To limit the risk of allergy, perform a trial touch 48 hours before applying your technique. The trial touch is usually placed behind the ear or in the hollow of the elbow, where the skin is thinner. Choose a spot where the skin is perfectly healthy: no irritation, wounds, pimples, burns, etc.

  • If you notice an allergic reaction (redness, itching, texture, swelling or any other sign), rinse immediately and wash off with mild soap.

  • If, after 48 hours' use of the test button, you see no sign of an allergic reaction, rinse and wash your skin with a mild soap. You can now proceed with your smoothing.

 

STEP 1 APPLICATION: ORGANIC PROTEIN

  • Shake well before use.

  • After washing hair, apply Organic protein starting 1cm from the root and working up to the ends, taking care to envelop the entire hair shaft and spreading it out with a wide comb.

  • Leave on blond and fine hair for approx. 30min, on normal hair for 40min, and on very difficult or afro hair for 50-60min.

  • At the end of the application time, rinse lightly with lukewarm or cool water.

  • Then blow-dry to 100% with a light blow-dry to detangle hair.

  • Divide hair into fine strands to prepare for the straightening iron.

  • Use the straightening iron 10 to 20 times per strand, depending on hair type. The aim is to iron until you feel a soft strand under the plate. The temperature should be set between 180 and 230 degrees, depending on hair type and resistance. For fine, fragile or blond hair, limit to 180 degrees. Increase to 230 degrees for resistant, difficult hair and Afro.

 

APPLICATION OF STEP 2: HAIR SEALANT

  • On clean, damp hair, apply Hair Sealant along the entire length to the ends. Leave on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse.

 

APPLYING STEP 3: NET EFFECT MASK

  • Apply Net Effect Mask along the entire length.

  • Leave for 10 minutes.

  • Rinse well, then blow-dry while brushing your hair.

Does Indiana Gloss straighten hair?

Yes, Indiana Gloss has been specially formulated to relax and stiffen even the most stubborn hair, thanks to a high-performance glyoxylic acid complex that delivers long-lasting results.

 

Why isn't there a clarifying shampoo beforehand to open the hair scales?

The use of a clarifying shampoo beforehand is not contraindicated, but not necessary. Firstly, because hair that has undergone chemical treatments already has sufficiently open cuticles, as does damaged hair that invites itself in for Indiana Gloss straightening. But also because all the smoothing, nourishing and moisturizing agents in the formula have the capacity to penetrate the hair from its surface to act right down to the hair's cortex.

 

Is Indiana Gloss compatible with blond hair?

Yes, but it's important to adapt the application protocol at the same time as the plates, by reducing the temperature and the number of passes. Reduce and monitor the application time (maximum 30min).

 

How do I maintain my Indiana Gloss straightener?

With sodium laureth sulfate-free shampoos and skin care products. 

As a reminder, what is forbidden for smoothing maintenance is not "Sulfate", which represents the cleansing agent of a shampoo, but "Sodium Laureth Sulfate", which is an abrasive and stripping derivative of sulfate. All our UNIIKONE care products contain "Sodium Coceth Sulfate", a non-abrasive, non-stripping sodium that is perfectly suited to smoothing maintenance.

We would also like to remind you that the best way to maintain the effects of straightening is not to use shampoo (which has a cleansing function), but to use care masks that boost the hair's essential nutrients. We highly recommend the use of one of our ranges.

 

Is Indiana Gloss suitable for pregnant women?

Yes, because it contains no formaldehyde.

 

How long do the effects of Indiana Gloss smoothing last?

Between 3 and 6 months, depending on the hardness of the hair and how well it is maintained after straightening.

 

What type of straightening iron should I use?

We recommend using titanium-coated plates, as they are renowned for their robustness and rapid heat transmission, enabling accelerated straightening. As titanium is a microscopically smooth coating, it minimizes friction and preserves hair.

 

How many straightening iron passes should I make?

The number of times the straightening iron is used depends on the strength of the hair. The stronger the hair, the more frequent the ironing. Be careful, however, not to iron more times than necessary, as this will dry out the hair fiber and make it harder for keratin to circulate in the hair. 

In general, it's a good idea to stop when you feel a soft wick under the plate.

 

Do I need to rinse the product completely before drying and straightening?

The aim of this step is to remove only the excess product that has not been absorbed by the hair, and not to touch anything that has already penetrated the hair. To achieve this, it's best to rinse lightly with clear water and comb through to remove the excess, using the force of a comb rather than water.

 

How can hair straighten and hold without formaldehyde?

Since the formaldehyde restrictions of 2011, all smoothing products are manufactured without formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde was the agent that allowed the hair to relax by acting on the structure of the hair's disulfide bridges, and also served as the hair's shape memory. It reminded the hair that it had to be straight. But formaldehyde also created highly toxic fumes when in contact with a heat source such as a straightening iron, which is why it was banned by health authorities.

Our Indiana Gloss smoothing product contains no formaldehyde, but a glyoxylic acid complex which, in tests, has been shown to have a similar capacity and great power of action on the disulfide bridge line. And all this without danger to the health of users, without smoke of course, and without any other nuisance.

 

Does Indiana Gloss straightening dry out the hair?

Of course not! On the contrary, it contains everything you need for silky, shiny, nourished and moisturized hair.

In 99% of cases, hair dryness after straightening is due to the way it has been used, in particular by using the straightening iron too long, too intensively or at too high a temperature. Don't forget that straightening is a technical process, and the final result depends in part on your hand. Be attentive and rigorous, and adapt the protocol to the hair you're straightening.

 

What is an allergy test?
